Start a healthier life with exercise

01 Mar 2024

"Daily exercise keeps us fit. People of all ages can do it!" is a familiar LCSD slogan that we all know. It's common knowledge that exercise brings immense benefits to our physical and mental well-being. However, recent health surveys have shown that one in four adults in Hong Kong does not meet the recommended level of physical activity. So, how much exercise is enough to stay healthy?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided guidelines and recommendations on physical activity for different age groups to promote health and prevent diseases. Here's what they suggest for adults aged 18-64. Take a look and you can compare it to your own situation.

• should do at least 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity; or
• at least 75–150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity; or
• an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity throughout the week
• replacing sedentary time with physical activity of any intensity
• should also do muscle-strengthening activities at moderate or greater intensity that involve all major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week, as these provide additional health benefits.
• may increase moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity to more than 300 minutes; or
• do more than 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity; or
• an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity throughout the week for additional health benefits.

JC Fit City encourages you to invest some time in yourself. Start with exercise and live a healthier life!
